Re: Putting a turbo on the ol' 1915
Did some work today.
Scaled it using some wood blocks, an incline meter, and a hook scale. ended up with 35/65% weight distribution, and 1067 lbs (no fuel or driver). Verified method on known weight items, seems pretty close. Only did it for curiosity sake not because I particularly care.
Did some prep for first fire. Set initial spark with a trouble light, lashed valves, set plug gaps to .19 as suggested (ngk D8 range), installed a bluetooth wideband for tuning, and installed a boost gauge.
Did a compression test and was confused to find an even 90psi on all 4 cylinders (cold, closed throttle, dry). Wet test provided the same results. This engine has very few hours on it since it was built and I guess I expected higher, 100 hours would be a gross overestimation. This engine has noticeably higher exhaust pressure pulses when running, and no signature of blowby compared to my stock 1600 so it would appear to be healthy. Compression ratio is supposed to be 8.5:1 with a 110 cam. I wasn't really planning on learning how to swap jugs/cylinders this winter, so for now Im not going to sweat it too much and run it. I never did a compression test when I first got it, so im not sure if its even a concern.

Re: Putting a turbo on the ol' 1915
Fired it up. Got the idle speed/mixes set. Spark is set to 7.5* btdc with a mechanical advance up to 24*.
Took it down the road and its producing 9-10psi. I expected less but if this works that is fine too. BOV is inoperable, needs to be adjusted or fiddled with. Its possible my vacuum signal from the two IDF vacuum ports is insignificant and I will need to tap the manifolds. I didnt do a full pull, but I know that my 5800rpm rev limiter is working. Boost is coming on just after 2k and hits 10 psi quick.
I imagine its lean right now, cant get my wideband to work correctly at the moment so that will be the main thing to finish.
Also have a minor fuel leak, and need to adjust regulator pressure. Sits at a solid 5psi at the moment in idle.

Question: with all that power at your disposal and going off-road, do you have motor mounts and a truss/kaffer bar.
Seen several rails over the years that haven't had one (preferably) both of them that have gotten into problems because of it.
Again, nice looking rig!

Good fuel, and listen for pinging
some times I can get 12lbs without ping on premium, sometimes not wish they made fuel more consistent

If you feel you need rear chassis support. Just weld some tubing to tie in the frame horns to the cage.

Where is the vacuum line connected to ? Above or below the throttle plates on the IDF's ?Therealkoop wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 1:33 pm BOV is inoperable, needs to be adjusted or fiddled with.
