Re: Turbo/EFI Baja
Schweg, thinking about what you posted there are a couple of things I might do. VW has a roughly 6° layback of the front beam but putting the buggy on a rake can wash that out all or most of that angle... maybe. This is one of the things usn's old timers had to accommodate with street rods with beam axles hence a "wishbone" support for the front straight axle that allows the axle caster to be reset to get the proper caster angle. Something that a raked toy would need to be looked at. There are also shims and longer bolts out there you can buy to kick the lower part of the beam out from the frame head to change the caster angle.
The other thing that could/should be done is the use of torsion tube manipulation by either cutting the beam and rotating part of it or by using a kit in the upper beam to soften/adjust the ride some as you may be changing the loading on the front suspension. This allows the upper torsion bar to come into full use at different suspension changes.
This is one of my equivalents of what I think you are looking at but from many years ago.

I have some shims on there right now.
Really I’m just bored and inventing projects I’ll never finish.

Launch control had been in the works for a while now. I need to look at it, I start to then the tar board gets in the way and I stop.
I also haven’t looked at the gas pedal problem cause I know I am missing 15-20% of my throttle opening.
I also have a knock sensor laying around I could fit up for protection.
Those are free projects I should do.

Gonna need to get one of these I think! Between that and the Pi dash I’ll have everything covered with minimal gauges!

It was taking up a bunch of time I should have been spending on cars in the shop and shippments that needed to go out. So I had to back burner it. At the end of the day it would realisically take another person to manage that since it is another computer and I don't think I have time for tech support on a linux based system that I have to funble through to make it work myself. I know what I good at and what I am not.

Re: Turbo/EFI Baja
Question, I know this is not the right thread but I’m throwing it out there.
I am having an issue with the rear passenger tire.
It has negative toe and camber. Though I am not sure how to fix it. The wheel bearing seems good.
Tried a photo but it’s hard to see. IRS rear suspension.

Re: Turbo/EFI Baja
Depending on the year of the pan, because the trailing arms changed sometime in '71, the dual arms per side went away and became a single arm style. With this the number of slots for the clamping bolts change from 4 to 3 bolts with the slots in the trailing arms being used for wheel alignment. The trailing arms mounting points also reflect this.
Setting preload could accommodate the camber as a tooth or two change could cause it. Changing the preload is not uncommon in buggies and Bajas.
Also the polyurethane bushing, the red ones especially I have been told that being softer can also wear or deform. I think there is a lubricant also available. Supposedly the black style of bushings and grommets are supposed to be better (I have a pair of the older red ones but they have not been used so far).
I think I would carefully check the preload on both sides as Bajas' and buggies quite often use taller tires (30" or 31" are usually the limit because of the later model's torsion bar's cover sticking out farther than the early covers).

I posted this up in both spots, like fishing I was casting a wide net.Ol'fogasaurus wrote:Hmmm, I wonder what happened to my other post.
