Heat Shielding?

To keep the heat from the #4 exhaust pipe from cooking my oil lines, I put a little header wrap and a sheet metal shield between them. The oil line is only about 2” from the exhaust. Anyone else tried this or have other ideas?

I use thermo tec shield on the actual oil lines instead, you can get it in tube form to slide over or split with velcro so you just wrap it around, both work really well to protect the oil lines

Could use a wrap on both to get the job done. Is that a stainless exhaust? Does it radiate less heat like people say?

Bad Bob, there are other ways to do shielding other than wrap. For example: https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=ex ... BasicHover

Depending on how much room you have and how much of an area you are trying to deal with the clamp on metal (et al) shields can also work.

Something to think about.

I haven’t run it with this header. I figure the wrap and shield will keep the heat from transferring to the oil line. I just finished the fuel lines. I might get it running in a few months.

The wraps try to keep the heat located in the tubes but do absorb some heat. The shields allow air flow to move the heat away from the area. I think motorcycles still use the shields to protect the rider's legs. Anyway, good luck on this as things are usually pretty tight.

I think you're on the right track Bad Bob. You might find the shield needs to be a larger for better coverage (wrap further around the exh pipe)? You can also wrap the shield with a heat reflective material, something like Heatshield Products floor and tunnel shield:

Also, FYI DEI now offers their SS standoff mounting clips separately for DIY shield fabrication.

Bob, at a minimum I would continue the wrap at least to the last spot weld on the tube. This takes the wrap protection to under the end of the cover/shield under the engines heads blocking a lot of the heat from rising into the un- heat protected area. I also think, if possible, to double up on the wrap to the same spot.
