Different size front and rear tires on a street car require you to carry the smaller tire as a spare. This might or might not be a logistical or economic problem for you. My own experience in "tire width tuning" for racing is it takes more than a 10mm width difference to make handling changes you can feel. I attribute this to just differences in rubber compound and wheel alignment.
We race our Ghia "square" with same size tires all around and tune with tire pressures. That keeps it simple. Our width is 185, which fits nicely to 5.5" wheels, keeping the same scrub radius up front. The more narrow the tire, the less power it takes to turn it and the higher top speed you can reach.
Benefits of a Staggered or Square tire set up on a beetle and or super.
