CB performance IDF 40 hats (and boost leaks)

Post by Therealkoop »

Does anyone have a solid solution for sealing these hats? If I dont get in there with a pick and perfectly position the gasket, the things leak profusely. Ive been fighting it for long enough that im looking for some solutions people may have created if they had the same problems. I just readjusted them again yesterday so it got me thinking about it.

You might not like the answer.....
I am in the process of making new CNC bases with a decent O ring.
My bases were warped. I am hoping the hats themselves are usable.
By the weekend I should have them made, I will post pics if you like?

Haha you are correct I do not like that answer. If you make them you should post them up! Sounds pretty sweet.

Maybe a machinist can plot out the shape and recut the channel.

Mine are OK. Can't see why yours leak. Put a straight edge across the bottom edge of the hat. See if it's square

The CB ones always seem to migrate up into the carb and break the seal between the hat and the base. When I pull them out they are typically pretty warped.

I bought some 1/8th rubber sheet and cut my own gaskets out. They are a bit oversized and need to be pushed down into the base. I can wiggle the carb hat all over without them moving out of place, and they are sealed up better than they have ever been. It will take a while to see how they perform longer term.

At least these are flat and I decided to have an O ring between the TB and the base, hope it can handle the boost

Those are nice. Wonder if weather strip adhesive would work on the CB gasket.
