Quite frankly, I'm worried about Lee

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Quite frankly, I'm worried about Lee

Post by chuckput »

It has been over a month since anyone has posted anything in the Off Road Forum. Lee (Ol' Fogasaurus) usually gives us an Oregon coast weather report or an update on his contemplations concerning his buggy build. Nothing. Crickets. Lee? Are you OK?

Being 80 now, I have slowed down and stiffened up some and I also have some other things to do currently that are more important. Heading down to the dune soon to meet with some of the family.

This is where I am on the roll-around tables (another post elsewhere here; the small round top is not going to be part of them it was just there for looking). Using old rolling chair bases and then the rest to make the tables both roll around and be able to break down for storage when not in use.

I'm using scrap tube and plate and... some of this metal has been sitting around for well over 10 years and add to that, since I haven't welded for a while, plus I am using the different gauges and mixes plus the coating on some of them, they are a pain in the poo-poo to weld through (even after grinding the surfaces as much as they allow me to do). The first mounting plate was pretty flat but on the second on ot a lot of warping when I added the four braces to the mounting tube and mounting plate and the mounting plate was tightly clamped to the thick table I was using to weld on. The next morning the warping on both plates was worse. Shimming on one might work but the other one is a failure.

The black buggy is still being looked at but it is still the cage that is the problem. With no bug body due to the glass body being the choice, but it would not handle the additional spreading the loading that the pan has lost since the bug body is going (the top of the bug spreads the loads fore and aft plus diagonally). The bug doors don't do a lot either, but they are better than nothing on a bug.

I am also having computer problems. I got a new computer, and it is trying to run/control things. It erased my editing program for pictures and has now blocked both my and my wife's computer printing and connected me to something else for so much money per month. It also has blocked my disc to re-add my picture editing program. It has also taken control of other digital things so I have to get someone over here to see just what is going on. I had a lap top from the same company that tried to do similar things so I had it stripped to where I could only watch movies (I had a 3D movie program) but now it is also trying to get on the web.

I also got into an argument with Alexa (?) over something when she butted in.

Life isn't always easy is it.

Still around and looking in several times a day but not talking much.

Thanks Lee, that's a load off my mind! :D Glad you are keeping a positive outlook and keeping busy. I'm regularly having disagreements with Alexa not to mention the many times she listens in on my conversations and sends related ads to my Facebook

I have been working on the little tables but today was lawn.

I forgot that the yard is about 18 thousand square miles big and that is not counting the valleys mountains and trees. The sun was out with clear blue skies (but not nearly as hot as some of the places around the world) but by the time I came in I looked like I had fallen into a lake.

I did find some scrap wood I can use for the tabletops. 18" square and 5/8th of an inch thick plus it looks to be about the right size with the way the groupings of people are as they sit and lie between rides on the dunes and munching on peanuts (we even have a barrel for the shells).

The table will break down into 3 pieces for transportation other than the feet being fixed in shape but... that is something to live with if they work and people are happy with them.

Still alive and doing things.
