Brass timing gear condition

Post by Timas »

Evening to all.

I do not know how to phrase my question to find the correct answer so please forgive me if this has been addressed prior.

What is the wear limit for this gear?

Can I just file the areas that are messed up?

I understand it is a crucial component, but how exact does it’s engagement with the distributor gear need to be?

Thank you for your time.

If only the outer edges are dorked up, merrily clean it up and go.

Anything deeper or crushed/misshapen: its a cheap, relatively common part, and you already have it off.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
