New Exhaust System for '76 Bay

Post by kangaboy »

Will this:

Bolt directly to this:

Don't care about heater boxes, and I still will have the under cylinder tins. Just want to stop trying to booger up the exhaust system with exhaust putty and I have no desire to put new flanges on all the piping.

They should mate fine, or you could find a set of 411/412 heater boxes and strip the covers and use them.

They should be arriving within the week. I'll post pics when I get it all bolted up.

As a long term owner of those, expect ... a bit of work making them fit and seal, at least the first time.

They are a lot better than the 411 pipes which are really small bore.
Those appear to actually be made of steel pipe, very thick wall, just too small for anything much more than stock.

My EMW HX replacement pipes finally cracked after many miles and years, too rust thinned to really weld, I will probably duplicate them in 321 SS probably with brazed slip joints if practical, possibly adding some flex joints, as that's really the bane of using stainless in an exhaust, it wants to stretch a lot and return to its original shape.

Given what they cost, I cannot see the case for making them in mild steel or cheaper grades of SS that are more prone to crack.

The Bursch header (mild steel as they all are, bought used for $40) that I run on it still seems as solid as the day it was made.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
