The ecu has the correct transistor in it to trigger the coil? Or does the coil have an ignitor circuit on it?
Does the ecu see a consistent trigger from the distributor?

Re: MS1 v3 type 4 startup problems
You can run COPs or ls2 coils and a missing tooth wheel on ms1.
I stuck one in an old 009, just built another with a 72-1 tooth wheel, home-made sensor of sorts.
(repackeged an off the shelf automotive gear tooth sensor, the wheels are RC truck spur gears with a touch of weld)
Several folks sell a setup that fits in a 009, and Mario has really nice crank trigger setups for T4 or T1.
Just ditch the plug wires, cap and rotor. Least reliable parts of a gasoline engine.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: MS1 v3 type 4 startup problems
The MS is built to drive the coil directly and to be trigged by distributor points.
The signal to the coil seemed to be steady, even though the signal from the hi voltage wire was uneven.
I belive though that I did found the problem. I switched the electronic trigger to points but the error was consistent. I tried to go between the spark output inverted Y/N but the error was there.
Then it hit me that I had adjusted the trigger point with the spark output inverted - No. With that setting I had got in my mind that I had set the trigger already.
But when changed it to spark output inverted - Yes the signal come in a different angle and made the ignition pulse when the rotor was in the middle between the two towers on the distributor cap. Why the phenomenon only occured on Cyl 1 is still a mystery.
I learned that I phased the distributor on the wrong part of the trigger signal from the ignitor.
Now i did set the ignition to fixed 0 on the MS
Cranked and adjusted the distributor so the ignition signal is on 0
Double checked that the cyl 1 actually is on the ignition stroke by checking the position of the valves
I noticed where the rotor was pointing when the engine was turned to 20BTDC and checked its position relative to the distributor cap and no 1 spark wire. This was not accurate. So with the difference of where the rotor actually points and where I want it to point at the cap I have done a new rephasing of the distributor and moved the distributor point mounting plate to a new place. Since the plate was fixed with spotwelds I had to drill and grind and curse a bit. The new fix is with a screw in a adjustable slot. If this isn't working I do not want to grind again.
This is how far i have come for now. I will leve you a report how it is going further on. I do hope it will start at the next try. Now with the "spark output inverted" at the "yes"- setting.

Sounds like you have it sorted, good luck!
I ditched my distributor (used as a distributor) ~15 years ago, not missed.
