I am looking for just a type IV 2.0 engine case, basket?, over the internet.I am convinced they don't exist in THE WORLD WIDE WEB>>>(Maybe its the type I engine gnomes playing tricks on me)Also reading about the clearance problem with the 80mm crank and cam.Can this be over come.I just don't understand how a type I can have a radical 86 crank I mean is it a typical problem or just for the Mighty type IV..

I learned nothing 'cuz I didn't need nor want to. I didn't want to use parts that would shorten engine life. Such as smaller journal cranks (rabbit rods), small base circle cams, etc. I did not want to go down that path.

Sure these parts are used in off road racers but they also get tore down much more often. Just the opposite of what I want. I have my Bug for that kind of performance.

For Type IV motors, you can check any place that caters to 914 enthusiasts. Places like the Rennlist http://www.rennlist.com , the Renegade 914 Club http://www.dgi.net/914 , Tim's 914 Fan Page http://www.914fan.net , and my own employers, Pelican Parts http://www.pelicanparts.com .

All of those have classifieds sections and/or BBSes that carry parts ads.

Thanks Dave ,I will check those places....currently i am checking www.ebay.com under preferablly porsche 914..hehehehe.there was a 2.0; 1 year shelf life long block that sold for I think it was 555 bucks,no specs of the engine other than it was a 2.0 and pictures were hazy(like something not clear)....would that have been a fair price? could a type IV case be line bored a few times..type I woes.that is my concern on not purchasing that long block or any used long block.later.

Morpheus; type 4 cases are rarely line bored they are made from better stuff than type 1s. The last time I checked there was only first oversize bearings available. In the 5 years I sold VW parts I never sold a single set of linebore bearings for a type 4.

I had mine alignbored just to make sure it was prefectly straight as the engine will see 6000- 7000 rpm when I really get on it. Yes, I am running a counterweighted crank plus balancing...The point is what are you doing with the motor..if its in a bus it won't need rev's but if its in a lightweight body heck, rev it up! And plan is to turbo the motor this winter! Now then it will be a screamer.

I found this note on rec.autos.makers.vw.aircooled -- it's a bit old, but it might still be worth looking at.

I am moving & have no use for this. It is an assembled 2.0 case from a late
'75 Transporter, no endplay, crank, rods, P & C's ( need replacing) , oil
fill tube, distributor & THAT'S ALL! I have NO other parts for this engine,
or any other Bus parts, so please don't ask! Asking $125, located in
Detroit,MI willing to drive an hour or so to meet you.

Just go to the Junk yard and buy a complete engine out of a later bus. Then you will have a starting point and it won't cost much. I wouldn't pay more than 100$ or 150$ for a decent core engine complete. I have a couple, I'll sell you one cheap if you are in the Boise, Idaho area.
