Some of the white plastic is broken out of the door striker plates on my 74 Ghia. The part that is broken is not the larger part which appears as a spacer but the portion that is "buried" back in the unit. Since these ar listed at about $55 each the question is: is there any repair that is feasable?? The doors seem to latch up OK.
Also the large Phillips screws which hold them on are tight as H***. Is ther a trick for getting these loose??

ok for the screw get a hammer and tap it on the end of the screwdriver while in the philips screw it self. This should help some, if it does not help get liquid wrench or WD 40 that should help to. I cant tell you if these are replace able but what I would do is to try toi take the assembly apart and then go to a local vwdub junkyard with some tools and pry one out and waala its fixable, course if everything worked this way and would be this esay I would be driving my ghia now.
Striker Plates
I just replaced mine. I had tried to get new ones from House of Ghia which states on their web site that "Our rebuilt unit costs about 1/4 the price of a new striker", but after two phone calls and an email, with no reply from them, I gave up.
I ended up getting them from CIP1 for $50 each. In order to get these to work properly I had to fabricate a shim, because the thickness of the inside metal plate on the new units were not as thick as on the OEM units. Getting the screws loose was not a problem - used a wrench on a large square shank screwdriver.
