Need a Steering Coupler

I have looked in all of the printed catologs that I have and have looked on all of the internet site that I can find, but nobody seems to have a steering couler. I don't mean the rubber disc; I need the metal parts the disc bolts to. Specifically the part that goes on the end of the shaft coming out of the steering gear box. This shaft has small, fine splines and the matching splines in the metal coupling have worn away, so I am thinking that it would be best to have a new metal coupling.

1960 Ghia. Anyone know where Imight find one of these couplings?

Try a VW junkyard. One from a bug will probably work.

If you value your life, you will ignore the above advice!!! The couplers are the same as those on Bugs, but it MUST be rubber, and it's cheap. West Coast Metric usually has them. I bet ISP West has them, House of Ghia, KGP&R, Bill and Steve's. Hell, I could go on all day long.

I used to have a 1996 Nissan Pickup and it had a couple which looked exactly like the one on the VW's.

If you read the guys request you would realize that he specifically said he doesn't want the rubber disc. Hee needs the pieces that go on the shafts that attach to the disc. Those are not rubber.

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to resort to junkyards, but it looks like that's what I will have to do.

Since you know what to look for, I wouldn't have any qualms about using a junkyard part (and yes, the Beetle is the same). The splines are normally fine unless the car was run with the pinchbolt loose, so it shouldn't be hard to find a good one.
Some off-road shops carry new chromed ones (for a little extra flash on a sandrail) ..I've never used one, frankly I'd be surprised if they were as good as OEM. Vic would probably be a good guy to ask:

Sorry for jumping on you like that. I 'read' that he needed a donut. Steering boxes are the same on all Type 1's; however, the column is longer on the Ghia vs. the Bug.
