Cooling for a Big Four in a 914.
First of all, I do not want to start a new religious war about the pros and cons of upright cooling systems (Porsche Style). A lot is written in the “Bug” areas. I am just wondering whether the standard 914 type 4 cooling can cope with 2.4l conversions. As one can find many different opinions – at least here in Germany – I would like to know if somebody on the other side of the Atlantic has some reliable experience. Is changing to upright cooling worth the hassle or unnecessary? Is the "Sharpbulid" shroud the way to go or "DTM"? What is the best way to "get rid of the heat"?

The stock cooling system, with working thermostat and flaps, along with an external oil cooler, will work just fine for a 2.4L, especially if you have the engine case modded for full-flow oiling.
The "Porsche-style" cooling leans to the eye candy crowd
, and is actually NOT as efficient as many would claim without certain internal modifications to the shroud.

I have been looking for an early Vanagon T4 cooling setup for some time.
VW made some improvements vs the earlier T4 shrouds as to cooling balance.
Might fit a 914... The alternator and heater blower would be the questionable bits for clearance.
I'm certain it could be MADE to fit regardless.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
