i usually hang/lurk in the off-road forum. i wasnt sure where to put this thread. ive got a lead on a free 1979 924. is the engine any good, is it a type 4 engine? what about the trans? would any of the parts be good for a budget off road rail? any insite would be appreciated..

The engine is an inline 4 with water in it's veins...
If it's free just get it and try to use what you can !!!!

Theres a few usable parts for rail a 924 has. The rear stub axles are type 2 cv size and type 1 stub. I've heard of some guys using the steering racks out of them as well. The cv joints are type IV joints which are decent. If its a manual I think they have the right length axles for putting a bus trans into a bug torsion and using stock arms.

grab the torsion bars/ complete rear suspension (it unbolts)

Small block cheby is a supposedly easy drop in...
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
