gonna need some help, inline 4 into a bay window

ok....after YEARS of not doing anything aircooled , I bought a 71 westy. ...as you know they have a 1600 DP in them , very very slow, so I bought a Kennedy Engineering Products adpter kit that allows an inline VW 4 to bolt up to the tranny, I have two choices for engines sitting in my garage, a 1.6 NA diesel ( which would be easy as there is very little wiring to do ) and a two litre Audi engine with a sidedraft carb on it.

would the diesel be too small?...and if it is ...how do I make the audi motor run? electrical stuff baffles me!
