i'll say right now that i know nothing about 914s...
and, i know this question may offend at least a few of you...
but i'm going to ask anyway.
can you fit a T1 engine in the 914 engine bay? i don't care about the hood being able to be lowered. could i mate it to the 914 trans or would i have to swap that too?
this is for a whacky project involving a junk 914 and an existing T1 engine.
forgive me

Well to me it makes sense.
A type-1 that turns high rpm would be a lot of fun provided you kept the small 165.
And about one quarter the other style would cost.
Now the other side of the argument would be;

- making the tin seal
goofy placement of input shaft & starter ring
front cross brace
custom exhaust
how tight are the valve covers?
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

It will bolt right up, and with the low profile (industrial) fan housing would probably fit without the rain tray.
(you MAY have to shorten the input shaft a hair... Unknown)
(I have only trial fitted a WBX, same external size as T1 cover to cover)
You will need a "late" pressure plate setup, have some fun with the front (front is front) engine mount and perhaps exhaust, but there is nothing too funky invoved.
Just remember the 914 is a 2100 lb car, and was NEVER intended for drag racing. esp the tranny. (1st gear was an afterthought)

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
