Thanks for the tips, guys. I looked at the street beat website and it looks like the sliders they make are for pickup beds? I'm really not sure how the best way to approach this moon roof angle would be. I would like a slider over it, like a 'real' moon roof, because it would have better insulation in the winter. I guess one of the things I'm uncertain about it what the roof of a finished bus looks like. The headliner in my bus only goes back to the back of the front seats. In a solid top bus, does the headliner go all the way to the back of the bus? (Seems to me that that would look better, and then the 'slider' part of the moon roof could vanish into the headliner and you wouldn't have to look at it when it's open.) Is this something I'm going to have to build myself, or are there shops to do it?

Tuffluck: Yeah, I'm really happy about the floors being in such good shape. I was a bit worried about what I was going to find under the plywood that was under the linoleum that was under the green 'carport' carpet that was under the plywood that was under the shag carpet! What I found was about 1/4 inch of dirt (seriously) with some pretty flawless metal under that. Finding the floor in such flawless shape (and the bottom of the bus looks really good, too) makes me a lot more willing to spend the extra time and effort to put this thing together nicely and try to figure out well engineered and nice looking ways to deal with things like 4'x4' holes in the roof. :)

That's a sweet looking bay, man I wish mine was that clean. Your opening is larger than mine from the looks of it?

Did you check out this page of Street Beat?

Yeah, I checked out the Street Beat page. I suspect that the hole might be larger. It's actually not 4"x4". It's really like 39x41, I think. One issue I think I'm going to run into is that all of the pre-made solutions seem to be made with ex-Westies in mind, rather than this particular configuration. That's one reason why I think that maybe just having it replaced with metal might be the way to go.

Your hole is 39 x 41?

The westies and metal sunroff bays have the same size hole. The PO of mine wanted to convert it to a metal sunroof but it has no drains.

Here is a few pics of mine.

Yeah, if I thought I could outfit it with something that looked like that, I'd go for it. I have a welder/body guy coming over tomorrow to take a look at it. I'll take some pictures with the top off so you guys can get a better idea of what I'm dealing with. :)

Looking forward to seeing those. I found a guy that told me they had all the parts I need to secure my popup to the roof without flying off. I'm off work next week for spring break and I'm going to see what he has.

I'll be selling my roof hatch once I have marked my sheet metal. (Just in case).
