32-34 PDSIT carbs...both -3's

Post by SureFit Travis »

Earlier this year, I thought I was buying a 'set of dual carbs' off of a seller on the famous on-line auction. They were described as clean, barely used....rebuilt even......so I bid & won them.

What arrived in the package was two Solex 32-34 PDSIT -3's with electric chokes, single aircleaners for each, and aluminum aftermarket manifolds.......however, no linkage. I got them for a good price....but was still expecting a '-2' carb with a '-3' to make a proper set of 'dual carbs' just like I am used to with the stock duals on my type-3 and my type-4 powered bus. Or, if I am not making sense, I was expecting one carb to be a mirror image (opposite) of the other one. As it is right now, one choke cap would face the rear of the engine, and the other would face the front, as opposed to both facing the rear of the engine.

I have come across this a few more times on the on-line auction, and have started to wonder if this was offered as a kit at one time by a supplier as an aftermarket replacement kit with two '-3's'? (perhaps to replace your worn-out dual carbs, or fuel injection) . If so, what linkage would I be looking for to make use of them?

Any tips would be helpful!

I have a set in the garage, that are both the same side as well
If they happen to be -2's then we can both help each other out.

It has been too long since playing with dual carbs on a T4 so I cannot help on the main question.

But you could see if a CSP center linkage (ball crank style) would work with those carbs.

IIRC the VW stock linkage was far from a work of art.

Also if the manifolds are aluminum then it is an upgrade from the stock steal units.

The set that I have is both -3's as well, on aluminum manifolds to boot.
