'69 Westy master cylinder leak

Post by cbcarch »

Searched forums, got lots of threads-but none that fit this exactly, that I could find, anyway.

There is a small fluid leak on the master cylinder, which is the dual circuit for '69 bus, no servo---coming from the rear outlet with the wires for
the brake/warning lights. I tightened the fitting, but it is still leaking.

Any thoughts? Unscrew the fitting, perhaps use some teflon tape?

New Master Cylinders are running $150 or more--don't want to replace it
if not necessary.

Cheers.... :?:

Are yo usure it is coming from the treaded portion of the sender? The plastic/bakelite filler and the sender case may be leaking fluid then seeping down the side of the sender.

I agree be sure you can see where it is coming from.

But yes you can use a little dab of liquid teflon to seal the threads. I like loctite 571. (do not quote me exactly on the # but I believe it to be right)
