Question About 1.8 Heads

Post by pilothyer »

Several years ago I bought a pair of new cylinder heads for my '75 914 1.8 liter from Performance Products. I never noticed before, but now I see I have 2 left side heads (they both have the location for the head temp sensor) My question is can I use them as a left and right? Is that the only difference? Thanks in advance for your reply............Jerry

That is the only difference.

It's actually a bonus as you cannot accidentally swap left for right ;-)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Thanks for that bit of good news.......I wonder if that extra tap would be a good place to rig up a head temp guage...or would that location simply give me useless information?

The ONLY place to get accurate readings for a head temp gauge is under the spark plug. That stock L-jet sensor only senses heat, in order to give the EFI computer a signal via varied resistance. It's too far away from the combustion chamber (the heat source) to give an accurate temp reading for a gauge.

BTW, welcome to STF!!
