front end rebuild

well its time for a front end rebuild on the square. I knew there where some problems there. From looking at the poor patch job from the previous owner. But did not think it was this bad till i pulled everything out and striped away the undercoating and patch work.

one side of the frame horn cut out

i am in the middle of redoing the whole front end.

beam is out and stripped down to bare metal and repainted

new TRW steering box, new master, all new lines,new tie rod end,new rotors the list goes on just about everything is being replaced or recond

the start of the right beam horn being fabed

test fitting new bracket to be welded in

crack in frame head

crack pulled closed usinmg my floor anchors and welded

the start of the left side beam horn fab. my weld are not the most beautiful. But they get the job done. my power out put on the welder has to be watched i currently live in a off-grid house. that i am building in the PH. no out side power,water.

1/8in steel being used

getting close to done on the left side

lot of time and work involved with this but when it done it should last a very long time and be stronger then it was before.

Wow, nice work. When I found that much damage on my fasty, I weasled out and just found another dead car with a good pan.

if i was still in the states i might have done that. But its a little harder here to get away with swaping pans. I was a little larger undertaking then i thought. But i got it done. after this i dont think there nothing i cant do on this car.

redrilled rotors

test fitting the rims to check clearance

just have to trim the bump stop bracket a little using 16x7 phone dials with a offset of 65

well i have a lot planed for this car. Just take a little while long here to round up some of the parts.

the next thing its getting is a irs conversion, then a typ4 motor install,
after that comes the body mods. bug eye headlight with euro lens all new panels then repaint . might take a year or so before its all done. but ill get it there ....

test fitting the rubber looks like i need to add some spaces and get some audi lug bolts. being there long then stock vw

Looking good. We had to do a similar frame horn repair on a rabbit one time just behind the a-arms, pretty common actually.

It's funny, you say you're off the grid? My shop is too, but I've never had a problem welding. I have a 2500W system and a 110V Lincoln 4 setting welder. Uses a lot of juice but the welds away seem decent.

well with our house system right now i have a 3000 watt inverter but its a cheap china made inverter till my good ones show up from the states. so i was using then generator for the welder and when i start to run a good bead and get some good penetration the gen would start to bog down and stall out but it got the job done just took a little longer then it should have. well thats kinda on disadvantage of living in a 3rd world countrysome times. so how its there in La now i used to live in crowley and egan a long time ago. Not sure if egan is even still there it was just a dot on the map before.

finally getting to the end everything is back together greased the front end put it back on the ground. just need to put the tank in and do up so little thing car should be rolling today

the wheel guides are inner tie rods from my polo classic that i just cut down

Holy crap, I didn't realize you were from Manila. My wife and I were there in Dec. of last year. Her brother works at the embassy so he lives in Makati. Don't see too many dubs on the road there. I saw a few bugs, hardly any buses, and whole lotta Jeepneys and Japanese cars.

Carencro is still alive and kicking, I'm not real familiar with Egan. Were shifting over to the Northshore area though. I still get looks and screams from kids of all ages driving my '66 bus around town. Only split window bus on the road...I have a Xantrex 24V Inverter, pricey but worth it. I have only four 6V batteries which is just about enough for what I do. The range through the day and night is sorta limiting, but I simple turn a light off in the evening when I hear the charge controller dropping a level. Good luck with the T3.

ya mostly you see bugs on the roads here. there really a lot of type3 here a poop load of notches and typ34 . but most are afraid to drive then as a daily driver japo car are the car of chose for most.

I still have a lot planed for the square a rounded up almost all of my body parts. All NOS just have a few more to get then its getting a repaint, a irs conversion.
