Just grabbed some measurements off a pair of 914 blocks for the dipstick/tube, figured should put them up for reference...
Dispstick measurements, 914 case, EA code or GA code, just measured off 2 blocks.
Dipstick tube top from case boss: 5 15/16"
Dipstick tube top from top of breather chimney: 2 1/32"
Dipstick seating surface to "full" mark: 13 3/8"
Done with a tape measure, so give or take a few thou.
It's not critical, I have ~always run 5 quarts.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
