I used to drive Chris' bus when it had a 1679 Type I in it (machine-in 88x69), 34PICT-3 and Bugpack 4061 cam. It would get down the road OK, comparable to the twin-carb 1679cc Type IV it came with, but IMO that's just adequate. With camper equipment or taller gearing that's just not enough power on tap to keep up with traffic. I had a 1775 w/40IDFs in it for a while which made it much better, but a stroker like Chris has is the way to go, especially with an 091 trans.

So I just rebuilt the throttle pedal in my `73 as it started to stick horribly bad coming home from work yesterday...There was either no throttle or WOT
Anyway, the bus had always had a good amount of go, but never had full throttle travel at the carbs...after rebuilding the pedal it has full travel and it's an entirely new beast...much more rev happy now, I feel sorry for my cast crank it's going to get a world of punishment now
I just calculated I was getting 18mpg, so we'll see what this brings on.
She used to run out of breath right around 4500 and now it absolutely pulls to over 5k.
I think she's got 10,500 miles on 'er now.
