1977 Transporter - problem with window crank

Post by jlvikes »

I have a '77 Transporter that I recently purchased and I have a problem with the driver's side window. The window will not roll down at all. I removed the window crank and swapped it with the passenger side crank, but still no luck. It seems that the part that the crank 'screws into' is stripped or something because when I turn the crank, it will just keep turning, but the window does not roll down.

Any ideas on how I can fix this? If so, where or how would I find the replacement parts to do this?

Thanks much!

Going to a wrecking yard and finding another window regulator comes to mind. I would bet too that there is a junk bay sitting behind someone's barn or garage not that far from where you live. Places like Busted Bus will ship as well. The regulator may still be available new, try places like Van Cafe, Bus Boys, or Bus Depot to see what they have to offer.

I've got two pairs of good used ones if you are interested.
