what's up with this interior, is it a factory job? I scored this bus for $350 from the widow of the original owner, the dude had 9 vw's and this was the last one she had. It had a for sale sign in it for $2,500. the gas tank is toasted, I don't think it had moved in at least 10 years, the plates expired in 2000, but they are 5 yr collector plates and the last receipt in the glove box was from 95, I found receipts all the way back to 70'. It even had a pristine can of oil in the back.
Oh, and I fabbed up a tow bar out of some old bug spring plates so I could use my bug tow bar to move it.
I had a day to move it. I had a beetle tow bar and it was a saturday and the fab shops were closed, so I took the bumper off, brought it home and cut up some spring plates and a torsion bar (all the spare metal I had) and made it work. Who would have known the spring plate tube is the same diameter as a beam tube? It worked great to tow it home, but it looks a little funny now.. I saved it from the crusher, so that's what counts.
Doesn't look standard.
I bought my kids a '70 Deluxe and the entire interior is a creamy colour.
Mind you it's a RHD Aussie bus and is Honey Brown with a white roof.
But I'm inclined to think the seats aren't OG.
The vinyl on the back isn't the same colour brown as that of the door cards and the cloth inserts and covers were a feature of any buses I'm aware of.
Nice score though.
If you like I'll take a pic of the seats in my kids' Deluxe and show you what they look like.
OOOhhhhh.... gives me inspiration seeing such a nice bus! I really like portland BTW, the barbara streisand roses are my favorite ones at the test garden. I had to explain to my girlfriend that I got another vw, but she really liked this one (WHEW!!) so I'm giving it to her after I do a little resto on it. Chicks dig buses, sheeet, they dig vw's in general...
