Body Trim clips??
Hey Guys, does anyone know the clips we can use for the 411/412? Talking about the body exterior aluminium(think) trims that runs the side of the car... Tried the search but didn't find anything?? Thought we talked about it but couldn't remember if we can use the T3 clips like this...http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?par ... 113853585C or something else. Thx, Bill,jr.

The side trim molding clips fit rabbit and golf through at least 1990. You can get them at westcoat metric and others. I don't know about the fat moulding on teh rocker panels. I am getting rid of that and welding the holes anyway. Ray

I used beetle trim clips for mine. The wider ones for the sill I bought at a VW event here in the uk. I am fairly sure they were for the type 3 but they fit.

Hey Guys, thanks for the help! I ordered the Beetle clips and a new engine bay seal. Why is that seal foam!!?? Should be rubber to me! I was going to order from Bughaus but couldn't complete the order process so I ordered from Jbugs... Is there a way to protect the seal from fuel and moisture. It just seems to get eatten away from that stuff!! Thx, Bill,jr

I seem to remember Ray had either an idea or had in the past actually coated the foam seal with something to extend its longevity.vwbill wrote:Hey Guys, thanks for the help! Yes. Its a little messy but you only have to do it once. Get about 2-3 tubes of permatex ultra series gray or black RTV. . Warm them up in hot water....squeeze all of the tube contents out onto a sheet of plastic. Then with latex gloves on...simply massage all of that goo into a smooth outer coating on the foam seal. You may need to work in sections to avoid ugly marks....but when you are done and its cured....its waterproof and the silicone is good to over 600F. Even though you just used $25 worth of silicone....it triples the life span easily. Ray

Plasti-kote is vinyl. It has not heat resistance over 150F...and is too stiff. it starts degrading immediatley. Ray

The term is a misonmer...thats SILICA ceramic. It not flexible when cured. It may be worth a try...but its actually prtty simple...get three tubes of high temp and pair of gloves and you will be done in an hour. Ray
