Re: Turbo this baja discusion
I would do some more research. It seems like i remember reading somewhere about velocity stacks in the plenum. If i recall it mentioned something about the idea height. I want to say it was something like 3/4" into the plenum, but i really don't remember now. I know i always read to make the intake like a funnel. Have it taper down in size to the head intake opening size.

Re: Turbo this baja discusion
Hi panel that is a good point I was just wondering if there would be any benefit with a lower revving motor. Do plenums usually have stacks ? I am thinking they will help the air to turn the corner and straiten it out before entering the intake manifolds. Hell who knows I am just winging it here haha
As to your question I drilled and tapped the plenums to be bolted and gasketed to the btm of the plenums. The reason I did this is. When I had a friend and sponsor from the old IMCA modified race car team look at them he said it may be a little tricky to get his tig gun in at the inner closest flanges. He owns an aluminum fuel tank and vessel fab shop here in town and is a super nice guy. He is really busy and never really charges me anything no matter how much try to pay him. I know we could just cut the bolt flanges off to make room. He will be welding the end caps and the inlet tube to the top. Really I just wanted to make it easier and quicker for him and should work just as well.

Make sure you pick the right velocity stack though.......It's from the guru himself. David Vizard. Not sure if the rule applies when it's inside a plenum though.

Re: Turbo this baja discusion
I usually just lurk here given I've been on and off working on mine for over 10 years due to starting my own business. I put bell velocities in my plenum and based them off a research paper I tracked down when I was planning. I'll see if I can't dig it up.

Here is one of the articles, the other one I can no longer find online and it was lost with a hard drive crash many years ago on a computer I don't have anymore.

Thanks Alexander_Monday interesting article. sorry for the late reply. I thought I had replied to you after reading that excellent article back in April ..... must not have submitted it or got distracted Thanks again I have the empi stacks bolted in the plenums now Not real happy with them and will get some short fat ones with an elliptical profile entry {what I took from that article}

Re: Turbo this baja discusion
Progress is slowly coming together. Have the motor all freshened up replaced pistons and cylinders with JE forged set, replaced heads with SL1 racing Turbo prepped heads. Made some plenums and rearranged the intake plumbing to get rid of several coupler's, plugged holes in shroud and bolted on a better formula V mini sump found a 50 mm ford throttle body I am sort of digging this arrangement

I then packed it all up and took it to the car

made a clutch torque measuring tool sealed and pressure tested from the throttle body to the plenums and bottom of intake manifolds as a assembled unit. I stopped raising the pressure at about 70 lbs with no leaks haha. Bolted it all together and stuck it in the car. Made a throttle cable and tried to wire the TPS. I could not get it to make sense or jive. I suspect I may have damaged it while playing with it when I first got it

put the old exhaust on and found a cheapo filter for the TB, made a PVC pressure oilier and filled it with 5 liters of GP1 break in oil through the pump side of the oil filter. Fired it up for a couple seconds with out the TPS sensor and the old tune with new injector size and took a data log which I have yet to look at. Hit the mens mall on the way home from the farm and located another TPS sensor off a 99 Ford Sable. The plan is to seat the rings in naturally aspirated then add the Turbo and intercooler
AND THAT IS WHERE WE ARE AT Getting closer
Thanks for all the inspiration and advice you guys are great I love this place
PSAny one know the pin out for a Ford TPS sensor off hand it is from a 99 sable I think
