Grew up on a cattle ranch with a very handy dad that learned to weld in high school. Not much to do when we were younger, so we would weld up things with wheels and drag them all over the ranch looking for a big enough hill to break them, (and sometimes us), on. Always had buggies, trailers, and other stuff that needed welding or fabbing, so it was a natural progression. At the age of 15 I, along with a friend and my younger brother, decided to build a sandrail...from square tubing. Finished it in a week and have been upgrading it, (after ditching that ugly frame), ever since. None of us are worth a darned at wooden projects though.

I bought a basket case 66 Double Cab.
Had tons of rust and damage. Basically out of necessity. Now I love doing it. Looking for my next basket case project.

after pricing up the welding costs to get my first bug welded up, it came to more than the cost of a snap-mig 130, so i bought the welder and did the job myself

Now it's the best tool in my garage. I don't know how many times I've welded a bracket to something or a nut to a broken stud, etc.

I took a brief welding course in Britain (in tech school) in the late 80's, which was enough to get me a job in America in the 90's for a construction welding company. I basically had the job due to my clean license - the company owner had so many DWI charges from his six beers on the drive home, it was worth hiring a newbie who didn't drink.
From there, I later bought a MIG welder to stick metal over the gaping rust holes in my cheap project cars, and have been evolving since then.
