anyways the bevel washer is left out by most, as it makes installing the c-clip much more difficult later. Ithink VW even decideded it didn't really help anything so there may have been a bulliten saying it could be left off. I don't know if that is accurate tho.
DO NOT leave out the bevel washer. Leaving it out leaves too much gap between the "C" clip and joint face. The in out movement causes wear of the "C" clip groove. The C-clip pops out.....it begins wearing the splines. Been there and done that.
It is suppose to be difficult to get the clip back in. Its pushing against spring tension. Ray
