instead of making room for the stock plastic thermostat housing, i used a bmw inline thermostat housing. but your way of dealing with the stock housing is a great idea. i like it. your build looks great,. keep up the good work! :)

Yes, I cut a hole in the hot side of the pipe going to the radiator with a y to a smaller pipe and hose going to the heater. I will let everyone know how it works. The cool side from the heater core gos back to the cool pipe going back the engine through another y.
On the headers (1 5/8) I have the header that has the 1-3 pipe turned to the outside of the engine this gives room for the oil filter to screw on with out any kind if sandwich plate or hoses, I will post a few pictures of the headers and filter on the block. Rocky

SWEET ! i REALLY appreciate you taking time for the benefit of the tinkerers on the other side of the big blue pool. wast thinking of doing exactly the same thing with my setup as you are are doing . already have the y-fittings fort it fitted.

Won't you have to wait for the thermostat to open before getting any heat into the matrix?

I plumbed my heater from the cylinder head returning to the burp tank circuit.
Been pretty cold over here so i'm glad to get warmth within a couple of minutes.
The only downside is having the heater matrix under the rear seat with it blowing through a modified kick plate.
A friend has done the same although he then directed the air flow through the standard heater channel pipes.
My car never suffers from window misting regardless of the weather so i've just left things as is.

aah as i am located in sweden i will probably also have good use for this. waiting a while for the heat to come isnt a big problem though as its not going to be used in wintertime because of the MASSIVE amount of salt that the swedish goverment puts on our roads. i could always go dual heater matrixes .

originally on the water boxer there is a outlet on the black water hose connector (on the right side on the engine bay) to the heater(s)
the return goes steel tube between the thermostat housing and waterpump, bypassing the thermostat.
but if you take the hot water supply right before entering the radiator would be the same.
the trick is to let the return bypass the thermostat

On the heater off the tube to the radiator If you ever have had a aircooled bug you know about how long it takes to get warm air to the cabin, My set up is going to be better than that by a bunch. Yes I have thought of running a single hose to the heater core and the return to the cool side of the hose back to the engine but wanted to see if the way I set it up will work. Just finished the break-in of the engine and tuned the carbs and engine. Hope to take it for a short drive today. I'm posting a picture of the finished engine and of the clearance of the oil filter to the headers I ran one of the short filters to get as much clearance from the headers as I could.

I thought it would be nice to add a 3rd running and brake light to my H2O bug this is what we did. Cut holes in the back area below the rear window to get the long light bar in made brackets to hold the light bar to the body. Pictures show how we did the install & how it looks with light off, with running light on and with brake light on. Just took about 5 hrs to install from start to finish ( boy some people sure can waste time)posting.php?mode=reply&f=37&t=141774#

GREAT idea with the extra brakelight. another thing i will absolutely incorporate into my car . great thinking !

my solution for the header"problem" was to move both the cooler and the oilfilter into the wheelwell with some plating for protection .
a bit more hoses to run but will be okey i think.

this is a really bad picture but my coolant returnpipe going around the engine . i wanted mine to be out of the way for the valvecovers.
