I will report by year end how it works.

Any chance to check them out?

Well not more than to measure them. Looking very good theoretically.
Engine is coming together although in not so traditional manner I have everything on the bench but not beginning to assemble it yet.
Soon enough.
One "issue" is that I have a good running engine in the car. Never had that problem before. Good one, I must say.

German Auto sold a 100mm biral set for many years.
I recall they were pretty good.

Does anyone here know how the step cut (with ~4-5mm more meat in the head) Nickies V2 setup worked out as far as the head seal?
I've been strongly considering boosting a 2200 with 1.7 heads (for the 100mm register) just to try out the original idea with some 103mm QSC jugs I have gathering dust. (the rings would go almost to the top edge of the jugs, top ring land ~all in the cutout)

Curious if the additional meat in the head helped as much as hoped.

Check this out. The pistons say 99.xx mm and the jugs look to be aluminum finned.

I would bet those are the AA 96mm birals set.

I agree. Looks very much like mine.
My forged JE pistons look differently though.

Do the 98s use the old 100mm register? (smaller than the ~113mm register the 103-105s use) or thinwall at top w/2l register? (~105?)

Sorry Pile and anyone else that got confused by my post.
The cylinders and pistons are not 98 mm (do not recall what my mind was thinking when I wrote that number) but I thought all the time I had bought a 96 mm set.
Just measured them today and guess what, it surprised me but they are 95mm.

Had the cylinders over at a shop ong time ago that sets them up on a center expandable tool.
That way he can "touch" bottom and top in the lathe in the same setup and they come out fully aligned, he said they squared very nicely.
I asked him to check for cylindricity and same thing, checked out spot on.
So in theory very nice.
Never did we talk about if they were 95 or 96 mm.
Now I know.....and you too.
Now I have to check what the order says. Pretty sure it was 96 mm... :-)
In any case, the have the stock slip in fit.

Item Sku
Forged JE 96mm 2.0 Porsche 914/ VW Type 4 with Biral Liners
Compression Height, Pin Size
C/H 1.185, Pin 22mm VW9600T4B JE-VW9600T4BSJE

Check/ tick off, I am not totally crazy.
Never mind as for turbo more meat in the liner is better. Funny though.
