Looking good Nate, I tap and plug the case for full flow, a tapered reamer is very handy.

Put a good12 hours in to the bug today finished putting the bolt on's on the 1500 and putting it most of the way together and running, engine got its first valve adjust in 18 years so it was pretty happy:)

All I can say is it's great to be back in a bug again! Got the motor in and it is running great. Drove it around a little and the alternator decided to die luckily I had a spare. Put a good 100 miles on it today after its oil change and servicing to the eberspacher. I'm glad I changed the sump screen this thing was nasty! Now that that's done back to the stroker, next step now that everything is measured at least twice and written down is give the case a through cleaning and prep it for a light dusting of flat black.

Been too long since I've worked on the stroker! Had a great day got my sump extension welded up, wire wheeled the case and cleaned the hell out of it, threw it in the oven for a good half hour then threw a coat of flat black on it and back in the oven at 200 degrees for another hour. I'll throw it back in the oven for a few more hours tonight while I do the final cleaning on the internals

More progress got the crank, rods, pistons, cylinders, pushrods, and wrist pins all final cleaned packaged up. Used some of that quick seat by total seal rings on the jugs this will be my 2nd time using this stuff. Lapped the valves on the heads still have to finish assembling them not sure if I will just use the outer springs from the duals or a set of stock springs for break in. Cleaned up the sharp edges of the cam gear. Still have to clean the lifters, oil pump and rocker assemblies but making some good progress:)

When I was looking closer at the cyl 3+4 case half I noticed this nice groove in the case where it looked like at some point someone installed a full flow oil pump with the allen plug that wasn't deep enough with a hammer. So I tapped and plugged it last thing I'd want is a nice leak

Please explain the quick seat process, I have always used Lucas oil additive or Brad Penn break-in oil to lube the cylinders and other parts. I am looking to learn better ways to do things.

It's a dry lube. You clean your cylinders with brake clean or acetone until clean, give a light mist of wd40 and wipe it out with a paper towel. If the towel comes out dirty looking re-mist it with wd40 and repeat if necessary. Then you take a little pinch of the quick seat powder and rub it in with your finger(I wire a glove and would recommend it) if the cylinder turns black or grey your jug is still dirty. If it turns green you are good to go. A little goes along way, I put a pinch on the first 3 jugs and worked them in and the 4th I had more than enough left on my glove. The last motor i did this to had a little over 65k and roughly 6 years of daily driving and seemed to never skip a beat.

Bolted up the rods and that assembly went smoothly into the case, distributor drive gear is also now set

Short block together, first time using Elring products for sealant. Used curil t for the case halves and oil pump

Well I was putting the rings on the pistons and of course the last ring that I was installing broke! So I had to wait a few weeks but got those gapped and installed. I ordered up some grant chromoly rings I've never ran them before and figured I would give them a try. So that being said the long block is now finally together:) I'm running some type 3 air deflectors and am trying out some of CB's racing pushrod tubes that have the added length on the case side(windage tube) and the wider opening on the head side(which doesn't have any accordion material) Now I'm fitting the tin and breather box and trying to get parts from different vendors to coincide with each other. I believe the breather box/oil filler is empi, alternator stand is mst, German head tins and empi 36hp shroud. I had to grind the mounting surface of the breather box so it wouldn't lean towards cyl 1/2, then take about a quarter inch off the surface where the cover screws on so the alternator wouldn't hit. Then I went to line up all the tin knowing it would need some trim work and it looks like the alternator backing plate holes are off by a quarter inch. I trimmed the bottom side of the shroud and got a good eighth out of it so looks like I'll have to stack some alternator stand gaskets or make my own out of some gasket sheet to make up the difference. Once all that fun stuff is done its paint time:)

The picture with the alternator is before I trimmed it. It wasn't a necessity but it would have bugged me every time I looked at it.lol
