Even if you got a set NOS for a really good price, just sell them and move forward..
Those SUCK! (don't get me started, as I'll rant..)

Also,
Don't even think about fly-cutting the heads any more than is needed to true them up.
There is an exhaust stud lurking directly under the head sealing surface that you want to preserve as much as you can.
Thanks for the detailed info, very much appreciated, Im going sit back a while and chew the fat and check the basics out first deck height etc before I make any big decisions. I'm leaning away from Hydraulics, one reason, it limits cam choice.

A very good thread "CLKWRKS Upright Conversion" that address fitment (cali style shroud) and heating viewtopic.php?f=1&t=134056&start=60
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

Any updates on this? One option that I never got to complete in a Ghia, is to have an oil to air cooler and use it as a heater core. Use a 914 heater blower and ensure the air source is from the cabin. In the summer you can circulate the air flow just to defrost in cold mornings or rainy days, and in Winter you can have nice semi toasty recirculated warm air. A thermostat in between the oil cooler and the block is always good. A shroud for the cooler shouldn’t be too bad to fab up. Can even have the cooler inside the cabin and the 914 blower fan in the engine bay.
