Ideally, you would pull your deck measurement from the center of the main saddles,
But,
That's not practical in most cases for obvious reasons.

Some supposedly do it, though..

Not as big an issue with a type 4 vs. type 1 IME,
Because the factory held better tolerances when getting the center main cut vs. the parting line.

You can measure how far off your parting line is from center main by using a dowel pin and depth mic.
There's a pic in my Cheap Junk build of how to get this measurement IIRC.

Like I said, though,
I have never seen a main saddle out of center on a type 4.
It's those type 1s that have that problem.. ;-)

You have to have your case decks cut flat, or all else will follow.

Eye-balling with a straight edge and feeler blades,
If you can find ANY variation in flat across the cylinder tops,
Then something is wrong.
Thank you. I have since stripped one engine down and together with another case I have taken them for inspection and further machining in required.
