Thanks for the link Lee. I believe my timing scatter is caused by the timing gear slop or possibly the fuel pump but I'm not sure. I know I tried 3 different distributors and all scattered a tremendous amount after about 2700rpm(I even tried 2 really tight advance springs and same problem) I don't think recurving a distributor will help my situation. There is a distributor called 123distributor that you can change your advance curve on a phone... pretty wild!

I run an 009 dist. myself (and have a backup also). I was told that their advance can be changed some more advance put in if needed but they need to be done out of the engine (or so I understand anyway) using a dizzy machine.
There are 2 versions, the early one being stamp formed (if I remember correctly) and later one (I think) was cast and opinion was it is better. Since I am not revving my engine (since I depend on "grunt") using the stock rig works OK for me. I would recommend having yours spun not only to check the advance but to check the innards also (the bushings wear and you can see it by the advance changing/fluxuating back and forth and not a firm advance or lower advance.
I changed my points from stock to an aftermarket electric brand (I forget now but it was, and I think still is, considered a good change from stock).
Distributors have always been an item that needs to be periodically checked for good health.
Check the capacitance of the plug wires and especially the connection from the coil to the dist. cap as they can fail fairly suddenly or slowly enough to drive you "nuts". Replace the rotor as it can "take a dump on you" also.

Small world! I got a picture book from Gary when I got the car, I like the widened stock wheels it had before but he changed things around to his liking. Speaking of which Gary passed away this last year unfortunately:(

Agree. Nice tribute. I didn't know Gary, but I am sure his family and friends really appreciate it. And him and his car will now live on online.

Cool car. I can’t believe I never seen it. Are the plastic mirrors from a Jeep. I’m looking for smallish mirrors for my C10.

Hey John, the black plastic mirrors that were on it were from an auto parts store just universal units. (They would look out of place on a c10 imho) The chrome mirrors are door edge peep mirrors I got off ebay. What year of c10?

It’s an 83 short bed stepside. Lowered some. It has chrome mirrors that appear to be some euro mirrors. Their old and don’t adjust well for visibility. I just may get empi tornado repops. I had real ones on a twin to this truck and liked them. A little 80’s cal look never hurt anyone.
But, these are the Jeep ones that I thought were similar.

Those would probably look killer. I'm a big fan of the bigger factory stainless mirrors like I had on my van they have great visibility
