Well. I´ve been around for a couple of years now. My life in short. Started working on dairy farms, went to trade school after an accident on a motorbike, (damaged my spine) went travelling, came home again and started working as a foreman on a graincompany- for 13 years. Ending in my current job as a forklift driver, 3,5 & 5T.

My first car was a 65 VW T1. Then I went into Alfa´s. A lot. Got poor, but learned much about the boxer engines. And started learning, the hard way, how to rebuild & trim T1´s & IV´s. Got better at it. started a business on the side of working, for 9 years, until there was not enough beetles and busses on the streets anymore. Decided to only rebuild and tune for close friends, but after about 2 more years, it was eating all my sparetime again.
So you can call me a T1 and IV engine assembler.
I stick around here and a few other places to try and get more experienced, along with being able to toss in an egg every once in a while.

I have a 1970 411E Aut. (not driveable as is).
A 74 412S Variant with a 1,8T engine on its way. German look style.
A 69 T1 HMS race car, which is also under construction. (Needs another year or so)
A 73 "late early bay" (which is actually about to be sold) w. a 90 hp. 1,9 WBX engine to be completed. This car is getting the full treatement this winter, going to be a nice everyday/holiday cruiser.
A 73 T3 fastback for restoration. Gonna sport a trimmed 1,9 WBX engine, about 110 hp.
A 1984 Mex bettle 1.6 F.i. (home built) almost done.

They all have taken way more time than expected because of work on other peoples engines mainly. I have a hard time saying NO. And there are so many things that needs to be learned.

hey, my name is ryan, ive been on the boards for a while now, i was a lurker way before that though, it is then that i learned the most. im building a 2270 t 4 for my notch. everyday it gets a little work done on it. i hope to have it done before christmas. im 18 years old. ive been a car enthusiast for as long as i can remember. there is just something about vw that i have always loved. before i had a car, me and my buds would build insane Briggs and Stratton engines for my minibike. i learned alot building a bunch of those engines. im still in school, last year of highschool, then i have college. school has really slowed down my project, i usually do stuff to it during summer. anyways thats all i can think of, my car in on car domain, and i will document my engine build up on the site, which i really need to update lol, but the link is in my signature. thanks to everyone on this site for spreading the knowledge

I'm Evan with the newly running t4 ghia in baltimore.
1st car was gramma's 61 bug. Nothing but aircooled
bikes for 10 years until this past may when I bought
the ghia. Worked my way through undergrad in a
vintage bmw motorcycle shop, now opened up on my
own to pay for grad school, even doing a little vw work
on the side.

My name is Bobby Riggs. I am 22 Y/O.. I've lived in the same house my whole life, no joke. I started working on engines when I was 5. Helping my dad assemble V8's, Techumseh, and Briggs & Stratton lawn mower engines... and a Wisconsin. Then I got into dirt bikes when I was 10 and picked the hardest engine to work on, the Honda. Meanwhile my dad started restoring VW's and building engines for a local engine builder.
I rebuilt 4 and 2 stroke engines for the next 5 years or so and got into VW's when I was 17. My frist VW was a '74 Standard T1 with a 1679cc engine and 270 duration Norris cam. It was built with NOS parts from the 80's. 88mm slip ins (YUCK!), etc,etc... best damn engine, I swear it was fast!

Sold that car a few years ago and have had 4 VWs since then. Started building VW engines for friends around 2000. Got into RX7's for a while and learned about their rotary engines. Now my current project is a '65 camper van with a 2270cc engine. Custom grind cam (based on 163/86b), JE Pistons, etc,etc The engine is waiting for a set of heads and manifolds for Dells. Other than that its ready to rock! Sorry for the long post,
-Bobby

Jim Nelson 34 in San Antonio. Family is from New Orleans but I have lived in Houston and here in San Antonio. I've been lerking, absorbing and asking a few questions for about the past 6 months.

My oldest sister bought a '71 ghia new. The car was passed down thruough the family. Seeing how I am the youngest I inherited a fixer upper. Learned a lot from that car. Had to give it up but did pass it back to my brother so it's still alive.

Jake is working on a 2166cc, DTM and new tranny for my current project a '68 ghia vert, which I aquired last November. I'm doing some body work and prepping for painting, so when Jake's goodies arrive I'll be ready to drop them in.
I'm new to the TIV croud but because of this forum and other sites I'm sold on the idea.

Hello, My name is Ray Greenwood. I only have two VW's at this point...my daily driver cabriolet (yes its a "chick" car...but it was cheap)...and my 73 412, 2 door with 4 speed. That 412 takes enough money and time to be 6 cars. When done it will be the finest restoration 412 around....$ willing. I am generally known in my industry as a print consultant, print process engineer. I am a designer by training and trade. (eight years in Architecture and art school) . My weakness is the fact that I will work on anything if it has moving parts. I'm 40....my two children are listed above  . My other passion is inline skate racing. I skate about 100+ miles a week. Yes....skates are high tech too, a good set of racers runs about $1200. Either way...it has wheels.
I'm a fuel injection freak. I may disapear for a few in the next couple weeks. I'm starting a new job. I will be the print process consultant for a company that prints and etches solar cells. I may have to move to the Phillipines at some point....but by December 1st I will be in Austin TX. Love this forum. Ray

I'm Nate. I must have been adopted or something because no one in my family could care less about cars. I, on the other hand LOVE anything mechanical with wheels and have since my earliest memories. I'm now 36 and have been into aircooled VWs since I was 16. By day, I "play in the garage" at ProVolks in Anacortes, WA as an air-cooled VW mechanic. I can't really call it "work" since it's something I really love. By night, I work for well known and sometimes aggressive international airline and shipping group (AKA - U.S. Navy) as a non-destructive tester on aircraft.

I've currently got 2 VWs. My '66 E-Z Camper bus that I've owned since '97 and am about 75% done restoring. I just acquired '67 Squareback as well. The bus is getting a 2.0L T-4 Cali conversion CIS motor. The Squareback is getting a stock 1600 w/ factory dual carbs. Possible a 1700 T-4 in the more distant future. Work on my projects is,. . . well. . .S l o w.......... I do all my own work and only when fund$ and time allow, so. . . sometimes I feel like a snail :(

Big thanks go out to all on these boards for sharing the knowlege!!

Riley, finishing 2 year degree in Bismarck, ND this year and looking at probably at least another 4 in Bozeman, MT. have three bugs 70, 68, 56 but the 70, 68 are parts cars. The 56 is my main objective. I owe alot of my knowledge to the forums and i still lurk through nearly all the forums whenever i get the chance. GREAT INFO!!

I'm on this forum one month only. My name is Jan Zaczeniuk. I'm live in Poland in it's capital Warszawa (Warsaw). I'm 33. I have no VW now (my father used to have VW Beetle's, some years ago I had one). I was specialising in Ford Cosworth YB engines for a long time(only rallye/racing preparations, cars with my engines won twice polish racing championship) and also I have a lot of work and expierience with Fiat engines (and whole cars). Also some VR6 I have done in the past (mostly for my friends, usually I got around 240 BHP from 2.9 engines). Now I have in plans new project with Typ IV engine so I'm here. BTW sorry for my poor english.

The lurkers have been called out!
<---- Check out my crazy post count. I'll catch up to Jake any minute now.

Hi, I'm Kevin, 25, living in Portland, OR. I've been reading this board (mostly the T4 and FI sections) for a few months now, in sloooow preparation for a future Bug project(s). My first car was a 1972(a?) Super Beetle. Had it for a few years before getting an 84 Honda followed by a 90 Acura. I bought a brand new Nissan earlier this year, and I wish instead I'd saved up a bit to put together a nice bug. Nothing wrong with the Nissan, I just love bugs and hate New Car Insurance rates.

My eventual plan is to have a Bug or Super Beetle (still undecided) with a few general requirements:
Enough power to take on the likes of a Mustang Cobra SVT.
Comfortable 'nice' interior.
Reasonably reliable.
Handling to do well in AutoX.

That's a lot of requirements, I know. Definately turbocharged, most likely EFI of some kind, maybe full electronic engine management. 4-wheel disc brakes, possibly a cage and harnesses. Big list of maybes and lofty ideas, like adapting an anti-lock brake system, air-water intercooler, water-alc injection, custom 5-speed(berg) tranny, etc.

I want to assemble the engine myself. I currently don't have the bug or even any tools, so getting started will be a big project. I don't even have a garage at the moment, that must change obviously. I have absolutely no idea how much any of this stuff will cost, very few prices available on the Internet that I've seen. Also, I can't make up my mind on T1 or T4 (cost difference? turbo-friendliness? aftermarket availability? Gene Berg?)

Wow, that was a big intro. I must be bored.

I'm currently building a 2056 Turbo Type4 engine for my '73 Fastback. It'll run K-Jetronic, a Porsche style fan conversion and it'll mainly be for road use. It's my first engine build so I'm learning loads. :-)

It's fair to say that Russ Fellows bug has been an inspiration to me. :-)

cheers,

Greetings-

Chance Lowenberg, 30, from Orlando, Florida (the OTHER Orange County) where I'm a third grade teacher (the nickname says it all). When I'm not yelling at students or grading their homework, I'm either trying to get my '73 Super back on the road to sell it, or working on my new project the '66 non pop-top camper you see. Planning alot of changes to it. Suspension swap from a later model bus with better brakes, dropped 2-3 inches with an 091 tranny linked up to a nice 2056 cool running T4, with a/c. Think I'll tackle the front end first and rework the electrics, the steering and the brakes before moving to the fun stuff in the back.
After I get the mechanicals just like I want them, I'll dismantle it, replace the rusty parts and then have it chemically dipped in my hometown of Wauchula at Restoration Depot. http://www.revivation.com/ (see here for more info) Then have the bus painted two tone white over red.

Later,

Chance
