Nice...

Just got to ask... anything wired to the NOS button on the steering wheel?

Could add headlight blinkers or something to wink at people as you go by... LOL!

Anyway, looks nice... Diggin the disc conversion...

The small red buttons are for my horn..the VW emblem is just a static trim piece. But I like that "headlight" idea.....Heck back when I had a grounding issue the headlights did that on their own!

I decided to go with the "German-look" on this one which is quite a ways from the "Cal-look" that I have built for years!
Here are some updated pics...I've been a little busy and not had much time to post.....

I've been catching a lot of flack from my "pureist" buddies, but I like the way the car is coming together!

What size were the front tires on the previous 8-spoke wheels?

They fit in there nice.

Nice ride! Since you're going with the German Look that VW emblem on the hood looks perfect. Is that a center cap from a new beetle or something?

Thanks!!!
It's the engine cover emblem from a 2.0 New Beetle.

Well I had a tire clearance problem and decided to go with widened fenders. I didn't want to use fiberglass, so I opted to find some old scab fenders and alter them. Here are a few pics of the first of 4 fenders I will be flaring.
Image
Old paint and rust.

Clean bare metal.
Image
Lip cut and repositioned. The fender was cut up to the black line.

Flared.
I've learned a lot with the first one, so the next 3 should be a little less tedious. I just need to finish cleaning up the headlight bucket.

Cheers

:D That's pretty neat! Thanks for sharing those pics. Should look real sharp when they're painted and on.

OK guys....here's the latest:
Last night I finished flaring the last of the fenders. I am real glad that I can walk away from the welder for a while. I etched the bare metal and I am now getting ready to lay down a coat of sand-able high build primer and start fine tuning the bodywork. Please pardon the my shop.....I do all the rough bodywork in what my girlfriend calls "The Dog House":D

All 4 welded up....

Ditto....

Not at all.
Fenders = $40
Assorted 22ga sheet metal = $45
Spool of welding wire = $10
Body filler and 2 part glaze = $30
Assorted sandpaper = $18
Primer and Reducer = $28
Paint and clear = $48

So, so far I have about $219 into the fenders. plus about 20 hours of labor. I'm starting to think I should have just bit the bullet and bought the widened fiberglass fenders! Not real hard to make if you have a lot of time on your hands, a keen eye and a whole lotta luck! The worst part is welding in the heat and humidity of summer!

I used a small Lincoln Wire feed MIG.
That's cool! I wish I had the luxury of an endless supply of scrap metal!! :(
