Red and blue with silver I believe go from ignitor to coil pack. Black is ground, the cpu feeds the ignitor then the ignitor relays to coil.

fishbuggy wrote: Fri Jul 01, 2016 6:57 pm Great write up and very much appreciated. It's basically been my bible through this process! I do have a question. Everything seems to be in order with my wire harness. However, my fuel pump and fan relays do not power on when power is applied. When I use the test light to check for power, the power in side of the relays light up. When I touch the power out side of the relays, the fuel pump and the fans power on...which essentialy grounds the relays. If I understand the instructions correctly, those relays are grounded through the computer. I've checked all the grounds with the test light and it all seems to be in order. Finally to my question, why don't the relays work and what can I do to make them work? Is there any reason I can't run a separate ground for those relays to make them work? Any ideas would be much appreciated.
I have an update on what I did to fix my issue from back in '16. I determined the issue was how I wired the fuel pump, ign, and fan relay/fuse system laid out in the original write up. In addition to my problem of the fuel pump and fans not kicking on, I could not get the engine to fire. I attributed some of the issue to the fuel pump relay problem, but also felt there were other issues contributing to the problem. I was unable to trace down exactly where I went wrong, so I scraped that set up and tried another. This past winter ('18) I rewired the relay/fuse system with a separate realy for each...the fuel pump, fans, and ignition. I used the originals relays I saved from the donor car when taking out the wire harness. Over the weekend ('19), I put my subaru engine and wire harness back in the buggy. It was a success! Engine fired and ran! Now on to figuring out how I'm going to be mounting the radiator and running the exhaust. Hope sharing my experience might help others that stumbled onto this thread looking for information just as I did a few years back. Below I have added a picture of my new relay set up. Also, donor was a 2.2 from a 91 Legacy.

Fishbuggy, I'm trying to test my harness out of the car and am having problems getting the fan and fuel pump relays to send power. I'm hooking everything up, grounding out green test plug, and then powering ign. on. Something clicks but no power to fan or fuel relays. Wondering how you figured yours out. Also wondering if you found that the relays were power controlled or ground controlled.

To be honest, it was a guess and probably a little bit of luck that re-wiring the fuses a different way worked. During my first attempt, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the fuses. Lot's of questions and research. That's why I decided to start there with the re-wire. I believe they are power controlled. This is my first go around with any kind of computer and wiring harness. Before this I had a VW engine in it with a hand full of wires as my harness!

Were you able to get it to "test" mode? It's supposed to cycle the fans and fuel pump on and off.

I haven't tried to get it to test mode yet.

So here's what I did. After watching Mick from Busaru on YouTube's video titled testing wiring harness, it appeared that the engine plugs needed to be grounded. So since the motor is already in the car, I put a battery in it, took harness outside and hooked up engine plugs. Then grounded ecu, green test plug, and hooked up all positive and negative feeds. I then touched the ign on wire from harness to positive and everything cycled as it was supposed to. Thankfully.

And an fyi, my fuel and fan relays are ground controlled. 94 ej22.

I have the ECU wiring all laid out, and it makes sense. This, however, doesn't. Anyone have a way of explaining it? I know this sounds vague as hell. I'm confused about having 4 relays, but this shows 3. It would be easier for me if the colors matched my relay harness.

Just saw this. The way it lays out is there are 2 ignition relays to split up the load, and there is 1 fan relay, and 1 fuel pump relay. On my 94 22, the fan and fuel relay are ground controlled from ecu. The 2 ign relays are fed from one 20@ line from battery and controlled by ecu. See power diagram on previous page.

Does anyone know how to access all of the images? They seem to have expired.

I'm confused on how to build the power supply wires. Anyone have any tips or pictures ?
