72BajaBen 2 Seat Buggy Build

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

So I started swapping out the rear arms. 3x3's are going on.

Passenger side mocked up.

I also picked up another Subi motor. I got an EJ253 from a buddy who swapped it out of his Impreza. So the EJ22 is going to end up in the buggy now. Which will be a pretty good jump in HP for the 2 seater...and the Baja.

So its long time over due for an update.

So I rode the buggy for the season. It was a lot of fun. As you can remember...I was running a T4 2L mated to a 3 rib. I had rebuilt it many years ago and it sat. I think the seals got dried up or something....she had a terrible oil leak. Pretty sure it was coming from the rear main. But that motor is out....

And its time for the Subi EJ22 to go in.

I got the bottom end all cleaned up and the shortened oil pan finished and mounted.

Heres the T4 after it was out. Its going to sit on the shelf. I have a dream of a 2 seat fiber glass buggy with that T4 in it.

And getting the EJ22 ready to get mated to the 3 rib.

And stuffed it in....

Unfortunately the already short oil pan is still WAY to low.

I took to the internet and decided on a new trans mount that was 1" taller. Once I get on the car it ended up being about 1.5" taller.

The old engine cage also bolted back on with the new taller tans mount. So that weas a score!

I got a Honda Civic radiator. Its pretty good on the rear cage

The round tank didnt have provisions for a sender or a return line. So I got the old tank from the baja and it fits nice.

The ammo cans ended up not fitting there. Mocking up a fuel filler neck and gauge.

Upper tans mount and crank case breather box...AIO.

And now we are caught up to current time. Where IM doing wiring for the motor.

Im using an UA4C Speeduino. Im not going crazy with wiring. But I am trying to make it nice. All wrapped and sheathed. DT Connectors are pretty nice. I recommend them.

Im using an ammo can to waterproof the ECU. With Panel mount DT Connectors.
