Turbo/EFI Baja

Keep it below 250 at the wheels and it should be okay, any more that that and the clutch will not hold for long.

I can only hope that I may some day be putting 250 to the wheels

Since we are on the subject, what does it take to hold more than 250hp?

I ran a Stage 2 Kennedy also with a Daiken disk. That was on my 2275T.......running the same on my Subaru EJ20 Turbo. Specs for that combo is 250hp.

Nice. It seems to hold whatever I have right now just fine.

Set up my external waste gate yesterday and wired my internal shut.

Went for a drive and tested base pressure came out to a 6lbs spring so no major change there.

Dropped the duty cycle for waste gate and things ran well.

My clutch is done for sure though gonna have to order a new one.

I am new to Aircooled VW i have been researching a lot, so what research I have done it doesn’t seem too bad. Just remove engine and install new parts.

My bigger issue I am having is should i pull the engine down and rebuild it while it’s out for the clutch?

I would like to get a counter balanced crank, turbo cam and new pistons and cylinders and HD valve springs.

Though I am not sure if I am ready to tackle splitting cases and all that.

I can tell you for me it was a little overwhelming. I tore down the old one I had. But I was also researching and trying to figure out the fuel injection stuff too, so that didn't help.
Ideally you might want to look at a new case. Seems like by the time you pay for all the machine work it would be close to the same cost anyway. Then you could still have a working car while you built the next.
Having a Baja will help though. Removal should be a snap!

Just pull it, swap the clutch and put it back in!

Wired or welded shut ?

I had some thick stainless TIG rod that I bent up and used to wire it shut.

I’m working towards welding it just haven’t pulled the turbo yet to get it.

Sorry, not grumpy! I just see this stuff getting over thought. Clutch is a piece of cake, especially on a baja. Just do it! Use the winter to pull down for upgrades, or fix it when it's actually broken. Clutch is a 2 hour job if your flywheel is sound. A couple days of wait time if it needs a regrind, and then you are boosting again.

Don’t forget to test it with a torque wrench....before and after to make sure you gain enough grip.
