nows the part where you strip the bus for parts, sell them at a profit, and pay for shipping on the high top!
(I am in the middle of replaceing the front beam on my bus, which i bought a little too enthusiasticly, so i have not walked down this road, i am ON this road!)

my 2 cents. Good luck, but imho you bit off more than you can chew here. However i am still willing to help/give advice on whatever youre working on. its your call.
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.

Things are rarely just crazy enough to work, but they're frequently just crazy enough to fail hilariously.

Actually, the pictures are very good. It's the Bus that's depressing.

Congratulations! Time to prioritize, though. If you really want to do a driving restoration, paint is not the first thing.
Start with the suspension, brakes and bearings. (otherwise too much temptation to drive as soon as the engine is in)
Then do electrics.
THEN do rust in the engine compartment.
I know you have a transmission, but unless you completely trust that it was not the reason the bus was parked, now ould be the time to replace.
Somewhere in there start collecting the parts for the engine. Your post about getting an engine was noted; a type III is NOT upright with a doghouse, was this a type III case fitted with that? Either way is not ideal for a Bay, you really need a 1.8 or 2 l to save grief; these often show up in the ads on TheSamba and such.
After that you should have a driver. (and a lot more time to consider the paint scheme)

Mine was somewhat like yours a year and a half ago, but it came with a working engine. It was parked because the fuel pump was bad.
