Re: Oxyboxer build thread
I pushed the firewall forward about 12" and I'm using the CB tank. I don't know why it's advertised at 12 qts; it's physical dimensions would only hold a bit over 10 qts if it were a true cylinder from top to bottom. It holds ~9 qts. I've found no other dry-sump tank to be advertised at 30+% more capacity than its physical dimensions.grelland wrote:While waiting for some parts, I am planning a dry sump tank in the space behind the rear wheel in the Ghia. But does anyone know what sort of oil capacity I will need? I see CB sell tanks which are 12 qts, but is'nt that quite big?
Any inputs?
I like the idea of the 911 dry-sump tank. I purchased one, but could not get it to fit where I wanted it in my Beetle. I would think it would fit well in a Ghia.

Does anybody know how deep I need to go to ensure a clean signal from the hall sensor?

As mentionned before will I be using a dry sump pump, and the oil will be going out of the case anyways, so I will end up with an external cooler on this build.

care to share your idea on the layout of your drysump system?grelland wrote:As mentionned before will I be using a dry sump pump, and the oil will be going out of the case anyways, so I will end up with an external cooler on this build.

As soon as I have concluded, yes
My plan A is to use the filter in the original location, then using a mocal sandvich plate with thermostat under the filter. Then a separate plumbing from the CB dry sump pump to the 911 tank and back into the pump.
My concern right now is the busy area around the original filter location, so maybe I have to rethink a little bit.

Re: Oxyboxer build thread
This is a great read and prompted me to start on my oxy build.
It would be good to see some pics of the gismo to make the off set studs.
did you use a drill press to enlarge the holes in the case???

Re: Oxyboxer build thread
Glad I can assist in inspiring others
I am afraid this build is a slow one, as work and family obligations have consumed all of my attention lately.
However, I have some updates.
First of all, did I end up ordering a set of the adapter rings from Rocky Jennings. I measured and checked the sealing surfaces on my barrels vs the openings in the case, and for a 100% piece of mind, I decided to use these rings. They arrived last weekend, so I will have to mock up the engine again, in order to determine how much I need to machine the barrels.
Secondly, I came across a good deal on a JPM raptor cam and lifter kit, so now I will convert the lifter bores to accept T1 size lifters. Again I am turning to Rocky for his quality parts. This will mean a little more machine work, but I hope the advantages of the raptor cams will outweight these additional cost/time efforts.
It also seems I got hold of the wrong type of flywheel, as the one I have is a 228mm diameter one, and from what I have been told, these will not be a direct fit in a T1 gearbox, so I will have to keep looking. A bit of a disappointment, as the next major step is to send out the rotating parts for balancing, and now that will have to wait a bit longer.
Other than that, I am doing some work on the car itself to prepare for spring, which is approaching at an alarming rate...

Re: Oxyboxer build thread
I have concluded that it will be the least hassle use a 200mm flywheel, so my question is whether anybody knows who manufactures this:

Re: Oxyboxer build thread
The flywheel arrived today, and it appears to be made by AA performance.
Then I finally can get the next steps moving, and that starts with sending out the rotating parts for balancing.
