How do you plan to flare them? Flaring tool or cutting and widening?

This amount of widening will require some serious use of a cutting wheel and a welder. if it was only an inch or lessI may be able to use my fender roller. This requires about 2.5" in the 9 to 12 o'clock position on the rear end. Stay tuned. . .

Perhaps BMW-Mini style flares?
(plastic, maybe they real thing would work?)

I can see cutting up to the air seal, and adding on something to the exterior.
Would be much easier, at least.

I was actually considering tubbing and narrowing the torsion as it comes out so easy to work on..
(go in instead of out)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I thought originally about adding some 914 GT flares (with some trimming on the top, they would actually fit pretty darned nice), but there was no way the fronts could be done the same. The fenders are just no where even remotely similar up front.

Oddly, I've looked around the internet, thesamba, etc. and couldn't find a single photo of a type-3 with flared fenders to compare to. Apparently, most folks don't take the "bull in the china shop" approach to these problems. So it's gonna be a bit of UN-charted territory. If anyone has some photos of a flared fender'd type3, post them up please.

There was a lister who did GT4 style flares on a fastback that looked good (awhile back--- site search not finding it ATM)

Basically tapered F/R and ~flat-ish on top

Do a search for pro-rally fastback, there was a write-up about it in one of the mags years ago. It had fender flares that looked really good.

THANK YOU Jadewambat for posting those!! I did find the 2nd photo of that Notch the other night, but not the others.

That first pic of the fasty is insane. I LOVE it!! The Gulf blue CarError is a really cool looking car with a really brief set of flares on it. I wonder where they originated from.

People have a adapted the BMW 2002 Turbo flares to lots of other cars, without too much work - similar in concept to the Gulp Car flares.

Man, that notch is too cool.

You've looked on the ebays for flares? I got mine for my super beetle for ~$150? new for a Datsun Z car. Very similar to those Corolla ones above. They fit really well.

Droolworthy Notch.
A std Mk1 chin spoiler would really finish it off.
(they are already black, and wouldn't drag)

Looks like he could have used a bit wider tire out back, given more backspace on the rim.
