After lurking around this post for a few days, I figure it's about time to jump in. So here goes...
My name is Mike Mitchell. I'm 37 years old "corporate suit" and live in Indianapolis Indiana with my wife and five year old son. I'm originally from Flint Michigan, one of the industrial armpits of the US thanks to General Motors (remember "Roger and Me"?), and went to college in K'zoo (the forgotten years). We have lived in Indiana for the last 11 years.
I have always had a thing for fast VW's, especially Beetles. I remember cheering for the unassuming little cars as a kid (which was not a popular thing in a GM town, mind you) when they were beating the crap out of most of the American-made iron of that era at the local 1/4 mile drag strip . It's only been over the last five years that my interest in VW's has been rekindled. I've had a handful of both air-cooled and water-cooled models in that time. My current fleet includes a '99 Jetta IV and "Project kaferTEK", my autocross inspired '69 Beetle.
I've been working on a pan-off, ground-up rebuild of the car for five years (the Beetle came home a few weeks after my son). Over the last year I've been picking up the pace and completed the pan, suspension, and drivetrain. Now it on to the body, interior and engine. Future plans include a race-inspired interior, CCC fiberglass fenders, one of Jake's 2-liter TypeIV power plants, and a couple white meatballs with the number "69" on the doors.
I recently learned FrontPage and have started a webpage
http://www.kaferTEK.com to track the car's progress. I hope to go "live" by the end of the week.
