My 70 Baja Bug

Post by d_fault »

I bought this back about 2 months ago, the guy I bought it from did a frame off resto on it 3 years back, it's got a 73 body on a 70 Pan. He boxed in the pan with 1.5" square steel tube, to stiffen it for off-roading. I'm going to drop it back down with street profile tires this week.
It's painted in 2000 Chevy Arctic WHT, I'm thinking of adding stripes or making it a two tone paint scheme.... I haven't had the chance yet to sketch anything up though. It's got a type IV 1.7 in it, MSD CDI, dual ICT's... Tranny braces, 210MM clutch, ghia frt clip w/ disks & 4 point roll cage.
In the last pic, you can see my semi-temporary guage panel I made up one night last week, I'm not sure yet if I'm going to keep it, I may redo it so that it extends all the way over to the right, over the glovebox area. The tach mount I made up as well, that's what I'm happiest with at the moment.

For you Turbo enthusiasts, I fabbed these Vaccum Distribution Manifolds up for a friend of mine down in ATL, GA. He has an online specialty auto parts business for Turbo Mitsubishi Cars, primarily the Eclipse & EVO.
They mount via Neodymium magnets, so there's no holes to drill & no screws to punch through a line or wire that's running behind the potential mount location.
He came up with the idea since from the factory alot of the vaccum lines have many tee's, and splits to supply the vaccum signal to all the different items that rely on a vaccum signal in a turbocharged vehicle, these are many points of failure & aggrevation. This simplifies installation, tuning & trouble-shooting should problems arise.
PM me if you have any interest.

Nice looking baja. Just wondering how much you paid for it when you bought it?

I bought it for $3500 & got a spare 1.7 type 4 & 1600cc type 1, as well as he let me pick a bus box tranny out of a stash he had of them.
I've seen bugs in similar shape, but stock (not with the baja kit ) for $5K +
So, I think I made out pretty good.
