914 prices?

Post by 51MAN »

I have found a nice original 1970, 914 1.7 80bhp, very original 2 owner car with papers.
OK, so it will need a good service and prob some parts replacing/overhauling
What should I be looking to pay for it? and any areas that need close inspection?
Thanks

PS was looking for a 911, but the prices are a little out of my reach for the right car.. so maybe this would be a start...

Problems areas are:

Battery tray area-look for rust or rust going into the long below $$$to fix
Rockers- pull the rocker covers as rust attacks the longs $$$$$ to fix
Fuel injection hose-look for or replace with Porsche high pressure FI hose only. $ to fix
Front and Rear trunks-Look for rust from leaking seals $$$ to fix
Engine problems- poor running results from old leaking vacuum hoses $ to fix
Interior- Look for a clean complete interior as parts are $$$$ to fix
Tranny- look for easy shifting into all gears without grinding- poor shifting can be fixed to a degree with new shift bushing. Look to see if its been updated to a sideshifter tranny.

Buy the nicest cleanest complete car you can afford and find.
