Hi Ghia Nut

Are you sure you want a tranny out of a 914 ? To get it too work, you would have to either flip it upside down, or spend more money than it"s worth to flip the ring gear, otherwise you would have 5 gears in reverse and a very low first gear. Then, to get some linkage to work.

Look for a 901 out of a 912, but they do come in both 4 & 5 speed, they have hockey sticks like type 1 trannys so hooking up linkage would be easier, CV joints may be an issue, unless you've figured that out.

Hope this helps you out .

Ummm... I do believe that the 914/901 series R&P CAN be flipped to allow the tail shifter trans to be run in a Beetle installation -

This 'myth' of the 914 R&P not being able to be flipped continues to be perpetrated on the unknowing, by the unknowing...

Who said it couldn't be fliped ?

I said it was too expensive. To buy a 914 tranny then have the ring gear fliped, and then to figure out some kind of shift linkage, it would be cheaper to find one out of a 912.

Actually, the 901, to get it to work in the 914, the factory had to flip the ring gear, from a rear engine car to get it to work in a mid engine car.

And what do you think this tranny originally came out of ?
