Pokey, my '72 Fat Chic Super

Post by Gumby_Mac »

I've been on Shop Talk for a few years now, but I've never posted any pics of my dub, so I thought I'd do that now that I've got some good shots. Here's Pokey, my 1972 Fat Chick Super. Bought in Aug. of 2002 for the whopping sum of $1400.

And below is how he looks now. Mods include late model Supra seats, CD player, lowered front and rear, tinted windows and an uber-budget paint job (<$100). He's currently running a 3 year old 1600-DP Mexi-motor.

Saving my pennies now for some Darkside "Spookification" from Airkooled Kustoms: 16" or 17" aftermarket rims, wide fenders, late model tail lights, yadda-yadda, German-look and some engine upgrades.

It's nice to see a well cared for Super with a low buck resto in progress.

Your car looks nice !
Especially the rims - black an orange looks better than original silver.
Keep up the good work...

Thanks! I resto'ed the car a few weeks ago. Installed new seats, had the wheels sandblasted, bought new bumpers and polished the trim, and rolled some paint onto it. I'm really pleased with the way the wheels turned out. I'm not sure how that was going to look on a late model fat chick.

I am planning on hopping the engine up over the next year. I'd like to at least take it up to a 1776cc. Of course, who wouldn't want a massive Type 4? I need something that will keep me firmly planted in the new seats:

I want a kind of resto-German looker in the end. Big wheels, big engine, but still a bit of chrome here and there.

That's why I'm leaning toward the big haus... the Type IV motor! :D If you're going to spend some time and money, why not go with the tested reliability and power of a IV? Of course, with great power come great responsibility... and probably a LOT of tickets!
