sorry I did not answer earlier.
Bear in mind, that with the original type1/2 configuration engine of your split....cooling air was pulled into the back of the upright fan shroud....and that cooling air came in from the louvers in the body up high on each side of the bus.
In the type 4 configuration that cooling fan inlet is at the very rear of the fanshroud. On the bus and vanagon....the sheet metal segregated the fan intake from outside air....most specifically the muffler....and again...pulled air from those louvers at each side of the bus. So...it pulled cooling air only from inside of the engine compartment and aside from the louvers ....the cooling intake is sealed away from the outside air.
The type 4 vehicles (411/412)...also had ducted cool air to the fan intake.
So...there is the question. Have you installed sheet metal tin around your engine to make sure that the engine cooling fan only pulls air from inside of the engine bay...where it is supplied by the louvers on each side?
If not...you will overheat. Ray
