How does one get insurance for crossing South America???

Are there any maps for the whole continent like there are the Michlin maps for Africa???

Anybody out there done it and can advise???

Yes, there are maps for South America. do a Google search for maps.

dunno about insurance as when I drive there who cares, its a free for all.

My experiences are in Suriname and French Guiana.. 8)

couple of notes..

Carry all of your own spares.. even though there are more aircooleds down there.. they are barely running.

Check with your daily driver insurance - they may cover you depending on your length of stay.

You can also google for "mexican insurance" they have stores near the boarder - may cover you farther down.

Soooo, kinda the same way as here ;)

You might get better Hecho En Mexico VW parts there than some of the chrome made in China crap here.

Just joking.

I agree to carry good quality spare parts.
